Mohamed Bourouissa
Mohamed Bourouissa has established himself as a leading figure in contemporary art with Périphérique. The photographs are arranged like paintings and use the codes of gender hierarchy to give marginalized communities a place in history.
Mohamed Bourouissa has published five photographs in exclusivity with Homaar that mark the beginning of his research for this series that made him known. In 2009, during a residency in Rio de Janeiro, the artist surrounded himself with acquaintances and friends to stage historical paintings, genre scenes or everyday landscapes in the wonderful city.
Mohamed Bourouissa's work has been exhibited in numerous institutions : the Centre Pompidou and the Musée d'Art Moderne of Paris ; the Barnes Foundation, Philadelphia ; the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam. His exhibition Libre-échange held in a Monoprix was noticed at the Rencontres de la Photographie in Arles. Recently he won one of the most prestigious photography prizes, the Deustch Börse.
